Mouse health

KM3Y6973.JPG

Common health problems to look out for in mice:

- Tumours, particularly mammary tumours in female mice. These are often cancerous. Have them removed by a mouse-savvy vet if the mouse is otherwise healthy and a good candidate for surgery

- Itching, can be mites but also sometimes can be behavioural. The vet will be able to check the cause and prescribe appropriate treatment

- Respiratory problems are very common in mice, antibiotics are needed. Make sure to see a mouse-savvy vet because most vets aren't good with mice and might prescribe ineffective antibiotics (happens a lot!)

- Change in their posture can indicate something is wrong even if you've not spotted any other symptoms. If you mouse starts having a hunched back take them to the vets, even if they're still eating & drinking
